The same app, in a real window
It is not the website in a frame: it is the same app, with its content inside the package, running offline and without a browser.
Windows
An ordinary installer. On launch it checks for a new version and asks before installing it: it does not update behind your back.
Windows will warn that the installer is unsigned: continue from "More info → Run anyway". The certificate is on the way.
macOS
Built and tested for Apple Silicon and Intel. It is not being handed out yet because it still needs notarisation, and a .dmg macOS blocks on open is not a download: it is a problem.
Content updates on its own
Fixing a guide or adding questions does not require reinstalling anything: content updates through its own channel, exactly as on mobile. The desktop download only changes when the app does.

Installing it from the browser
Epistemis is also an installable web app. It takes less space, updates itself and works offline just the same.
On Android
Open the site in Chrome and tap "Install app" from the three-dot menu.
On iPhone and iPad
Open the site in Safari, tap Share and choose "Add to Home Screen".
On a computer
In Chrome or Edge an install icon appears in the address bar and it becomes its own window. On Windows, if you would rather not depend on a browser, there is the desktop app.

It takes what it takes
The app is sizeable because it carries the 730 guides, the 1,157 images and the auscultation sounds inside it. That is precisely why it then works with no signal: there are no follow-up downloads and no content that "loads when you open it".
