Initial workup
CBC with indices (MCV), reticulocytes, ferritin, B12/folic acid, smear.
red flags
Anemia with instability, active bleeding or very symptomatic → transfusion and study of the origin.
Standard management
- Oral/IV iron — iron deficiency anemia
- B12/folic acid — megaloblastic anemia
