Initial workup

Rule out delirium and acute cause (urine, chest, ionogram, drugs); Comprehensive geriatric assessment.

red flags

Sudden worsening with fluctuating disorientation → delirium: look for infection or other acute cause.

Standard management

  • Treat the acute cause — search for delirium and its trigger
