Initial workup

Distinguish oropharyngeal/esophageal; upper digestive endoscopy; barium transit.

red flags

Progressive dysphagia to solids with weight loss, or sudden onset after stroke → urgent study (neoplasia / bronchoaspiration).

Standard management

  • Treat the cause — the approach is etiological
  • IBP — if esophagitis/peptic stricture
