Visual acuity, field, pupils (afferent defect) and fundus; assess arteritis (ESR/CRP) in >50 years.
red flags
Painless and sudden loss → emergency: arterial occlusion, detachment or stroke.
Standard management
- Urgent ophthalmological referral — most of them are emergencies
