Initial workup

Empirical antisecretory management; endoscopy if there is alarm or poor response.

red flags

Heartburn + dysphagia, weight loss, anemia or 'coffee grounds' vomiting → endoscopy.

Standard management

  • Proton pump inhibitors (omeprazole) — 1st line
  • Antacids/alginate — punctual relief
