Initial workup

Sediment and urine culture; glycemia; postvoid residue and discharge if there is prostatism.

red flags

Polyakiuria with fever and low back pain (pyelonephritis) or persistent hematuria.

Standard management

  • Antibiotics — yes confirmed urinary infection
  • Anticholinergic — in overactive bladder
