Initial workup

Distinguish long hair (high) from rectal bleeding (low); hemogram and stability; endoscopy according to origin.

red flags

Black stools or abundant blood with dizziness, tachycardia or hypotension → digestive bleeding (urgency).

Standard management

  • Stabilize and treat the cause — IBP if HDA; do not delay endoscopy if unstable
