BODE Prognostic Index in COPD
Four domains—obstruction, dyspnea, exercise capacity, and nutritional status—predict COPD mortality much better than FEV₁ alone. It was the finding that displaced FEV₁ as the only prognostic marker.
Required inputs
| Variable | Example value |
|---|---|
| FEV₁ after bronchodilator (% predicted value) | 45 |
| Distance traveled in the 6-minute walk test (meters) | 300 |
| Degree of dyspnea mMRC (2 = walks more slowly than peers or stops to rest; 3 = stops after about 100 m on the flat; 4 = chokes when getting dressed) | — |
| Body mass index (kg/m²) | 23 |

This page explains the score but does not run it. In Epistemis, the calculator validates units, flags values outside physiological ranges, and provides the interpretation that a number alone cannot convey.
