Initial workup
Pattern (mono/poly), reactants (CRP/ESR), rheumatoid factor and ANA if they are inflammatory.
red flags
Hot acute monoarthritis with fever → septic arthritis: urgent arthrocentesis.
Standard management
- NSAIDs — pain and inflammation
- Colchicine — gout crisis
- Corticoid — selected inflammatory outbreak
