  • Nephrotic syndrome
  • Liver cirrhosis
  • Hypoalbuminemia / malnutrition

Initial workup

Proteins and albumin, kidney and liver function, sediment (proteinuria).

red flags

Edema with intense dyspnea and orthopnea (acute lung edema).

Standard management

  • Asa diuretics — furosemide; salt restriction
  • Treat the underlying disease
