Initial workup

Assess general condition and type of rash; look for purple that does not bleach.

red flags

Petechiae/purpura that do not disappear under pressure with fever and poor condition → meningococcal sepsis.

Standard management

  • Symptomatic (antipyretic) — most are viral
  • Antibiotics — only in confirmed bacterial cause
