Initial workup

Look for lesions and dryness; blood count, liver/kidney function, TSH, blood glucose if generalized without injury.

red flags

Generalized pruritus without lesions, persistent, with constitutional syndrome → look for systemic cause.

Standard management

  • Antihistamines — allergic itching/hives
  • Emollients — xerosis
