Initial workup
Stage the ulcer; assess nutrition and support surface; culture only if there are signs of infection.
red flags
Fever, extensive cellulitis or crepitus around the ulcer → deep infection (urgency).
Standard management
- Wound care — according to stage; pressure relief
- Antibiotics — only if there is infection
